Dispatching Jobs (Send to Tech)

Dispatching — or "Send to Tech" — is how you notify a technician that a job is ready for them. Once a job is scheduled with a date and technician assigned, it can be sent to the tech.

The Dispatch Board

Access the Dispatch Board from Dispatch in the main navigation. It gives you a real-time overview of your team's workload.

The board shows:

  • Unscheduled jobs — Jobs in your backlog waiting to be assigned a date and technician
  • Scheduled jobs — Ready to be sent to a tech
  • Dispatched jobs — Already sent to technicians
  • In-progress jobs — Currently being worked on

Use the date range picker at the top to control which time period you're viewing (default: today to 7 days ahead).

Each job card shows the title, customer, scheduled time, priority, and assigned technician at a glance.

How to Send a Job to a Technician

  1. Make sure the job has a scheduled date and an assigned technician
  2. From the job details page or the dispatch board, click Send to Tech
  3. The technician receives a notification (email or push notification depending on your settings)
  4. The job status changes from Scheduled to Dispatched

The dispatch timestamp and who sent it are recorded automatically.

Technician Self-Dispatch

If enabled, technicians can pick up and assign jobs to themselves without waiting for an admin.

When self-dispatch is turned on, technicians see Available Jobs in their dispatch view. They can:

  1. Browse unscheduled or scheduled jobs that need a technician
  2. Select a job and assign themselves
  3. The job is scheduled, assigned, and sent in one step

To enable this feature, go to Settings → Scheduling and turn on Allow technicians to self-dispatch.

What Happens After Sending to Tech

Once sent:

  • The technician sees the job in My Jobs on their mobile app
  • The job appears as Dispatched on the calendar and dispatch board
  • The technician can then start the workflow: En Route → Check In → Check Out

Tips

  • Use the dispatch board at the start of each day to review and send out the day's jobs
  • Jobs must be in Scheduled status to be sent — Draft or Requested jobs need a date and technician first
  • You can send jobs in advance, so technicians see their upcoming work ahead of time
